The Shelter

Aashray came into being on 21st June, 2011 in the city of Varanasi. It is a registered charitable trust with registration number 147/11 and has also got 80G certificate under the Income Tax Act which provides 50% tax rebate to the donor. But, the name Aashray is a lot more than just a legal entity, it is a way of thought and a guiding principle for all the activities which are carried out at the shelter. Aashray, meaning “providing shelter” has been a way of life for its director Mrs. Abha Singh, who has over the past 40years devoted a significant part of her life towards animal welfare. The seeds of Aashray were sown much before its physical manifestation. Aashray is not only an attempt at offering the injured, sick and abandoned animals a second chance at life but is also an attempt to mend their souls from the cruelties the world has meted out on them. To give them a shot at life where they don’t have to worry about their next meal, sleeping spot, an over-speeding car, or have to fend themselves from those fleeting seconds which can change their lives for worse. Though our infrastructure is still at a basic level bit passion and grit to improve the condition of animals, in the city of Varanasi is rock solid. Aashray is not only an attempt at making the healthcare accessible but also affordable to all the pet parents and animal lover alike. We invite you to be a part of our journey and support out cause if it strikes a chord with you.
